SMVD Katra to Srinagar in Only 3 hrs: What makes the Kashmiri version of the Vande Bharat trains unique?
After the completion of the 272-kilometer Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the inaugural Vande Bharat Express train to Kashmir from Jammu on June 6.
Modi announced the start of train service to Srinagar, Kashmir, from the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) railway station in Jammu's Katra. Modi also launched a second train from Srinagar to Katra on the occasion.
Trains currently operate between Jammu, Udhampur, and Katra in the Jammu region, as well as between Banihal and Baramulla, which is located in the Kashmir valley north of Srinagar.
After India's precision attacks on terror camps in Pakistan, known as "Operation Sindoor," which was initiated on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam terror incident on April 22 that claimed 26 lives, largely tourists, Prime Minister Modi is making his maiden trip to Jammu and Kashmir.
